[What the role is]
This is a 2-year contract position as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Chinese Media & Communication at the School of Humanities & Interdisciplinary Studies.
We are seeking dynamic and industry-relevant educators to join our academic team. The successful candidate will develop and deliver modules that nurture the next generation of bilingual storytellers, content creators, and communicators. This includes designing impactful, practice-oriented learning experiences that bridge Chinese media traditions with contemporary digital platforms and emerging technologies.
Candidates should be effectively bilingual in Chinese and English, with the ability to teach and communicate confidently in both languages.
We welcome candidates with strengths in either Chinese audio/media production (radio, podcast, speech communication) or digital media and design (UI/UX, publication design, GenAI applications), or a combination of both.
Candidates are not expected to possess expertise in all listed areas; strengths in selected domains are welcomed.
[What you will be working on]
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Develop and deliver engaging, industry-relevant curriculum (face-to-face, online, and hybrid) for youth and adult learners
Teach and supervise projects in areas such as:
Speech Communication and Presentation (Chinese-focused)
Radio, Podcast Production and Programming
Online Radio Station Management and Content Strategy
Translation and Bilingual Media Writing
Publication Design and Visual Communication
UI/UX Design and Digital Experience
Cross-platform Content Creation and Live Streaming
Generative AI in Media and Communication
Mentor students in storytelling, audience engagement, and portfolio development across audio, visual, and digital platforms
Lead and manage an online radio station, including programming, student involvement, and audience development
Initiate and manage collaborations with industry partners, government agencies, and Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs)
Source and develop industry-based projects, internships, and live briefs for students
Integrate emerging technologies and interdisciplinary approaches into teaching and learning
Contribute to curriculum innovation, programme development, and applied research
Undertake administrative duties related to teaching, student development, and programme operations
Participate in school outreach activities, events, and continuing education initiatives
[What we are looking for]
Tertiary qualifications in Media, Communication, Chinese Studies, or a related field
At least 3–5 years of relevant industry experience in media, content production, broadcasting, communication, or design
Strong proficiency in spoken and written Chinese, with the ability to teach and communicate effectively in Chinese
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
Radio / Podcast Production and Programming
Speech or Presentation Coaching
UI/UX Design, Publication Design, or Digital Media Production
Content creation for digital platforms (web, social media, streaming)
Familiarity with applied learning approaches (e.g. service-learning, industry projects, overseas experiential programmes) is an advantage
Working knowledge of or interest in Generative AI tools and their applications in media and communication
Experience managing or contributing to digital platforms (e.g. online radio, websites, streaming channels) is a plus
Interest in adult education and a willingness to support continuing education initiatives
An agile team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills
