We’re seeking an experienced and confident communications professional to step into a senior advisory role supporting Council priorities, campaigns and community outcomes. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys leading complex marketing initiatives, providing trusted advice and delivering high-quality content across multiple channels.
As Communications and Marketing Advisor, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering integrated marketing and engagement campaigns, acting as second-in-command (2IC) to the Communications and Marketing Manager and working closely with teams across the organisation to ensure clear, effective and consistent communication.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment and enjoys balancing strategic thinking with practical delivery.
- A qualification in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.
- At least 2–3 years’ experience in marketing, communications, or media-related roles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Experience delivering integrated marketing or engagement campaigns.
- The ability to provide clear, practical advice in a political or public-facing environment.
- A full New Zealand driver’s license.
- Applicants must have the right to live and work in New Zealand.
- Lead and deliver major marketing and community engagement campaigns aligned with Council priorities.
- Provide marketing and communications advice to managers and project teams.
- Support and mentor others, promoting best-practice communications across the organisation.
- Oversee high-quality content across digital, print, social media, and advertising channels.
- Help maintain and strengthen Council’s brand and reputation.
- Support events, community engagement activities and consultation processes.
- Act as 2IC to the Communications and Marketing Manager when required.
- Provide backup support during issues management, emergencies, or peak periods.
