About the Role
The Head of Marketing and Sales provides strategic leadership and oversight of all marketing, sales, member experience and communications activities for Doctors’ Health Fund (DHF).
This role is accountable for driving membership growth, brand positioning, strategic partnerships and specialist media, and customer engagement through integrated marketing programs, effective sales strategies, and strong stakeholder relationships. As a member of the senior leadership team, the role contributes to DHF’s overall strategy and champions a member-centric culture across the organisation.
Reporting into the Doctors' Health Fund CEO, this leadership role manages 4 direct reports and an overall team size of 14.
Key Accountabilities
- Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic direction for marketing, sales, member experience and communications to achieve business objectives.
- Brand Strategy: Oversee definition and execution of brand strategy to strengthen market positioning, ensure consistency, and enhance recognition across all channels and touchpoints.
- Marketing & Communications: Oversee execution of the annual marketing program, including campaigns and events. Establish and enforce branding and communication guidelines across all platforms. Manage acquisition content across digital and traditional channels (web, portal, app, eDM, SMS, letters). Provide support for internal communication needs.
- Market Research: Accountable for leading market research to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive insights, informing strategies that drive growth and member engagement
- Sales & Growth: Build and maintain a strong pipeline of new members. Develop strategies to deliver sustainable membership growth. Monitor and enhance sales conversion rates.
- Member Experience: Accountable for delivering a member experience strategy that ensures consistent, high-quality interactions, champions member voice, and drives engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
- Operational Excellence: Ensure all activities meet operational timelines, are within budget and adhere to internal compliance procedures. Optimise activity plans against competing internal priorities (e.g. PI and new products). Identification of downstream impacts of key initiatives on DHF's Marketing Strategy
- Internal Controls & Risk Management: Lodge and actively manage any risk incidents and issues; Participate in Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) reviews and updates; Responsible for reviewing and testing the effectiveness of controls to ensure they are designed and operating effectively and to amend controls as and where required. Support any risk activities and initiatives as assigned.
Key experience and qualifications required:
- Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Business, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience in senior marketing and sales leadership roles.
- Postgraduate qualifications (MBA or similar) desirable.
- Experience in Private Health Insurance or Financial Services (highly desirable)
Leadership & Strategic Capability
- Proven experience in leading marketing and sales functions at a senior level, ideally within health insurance, financial services or a highly regulated industry.
- Strong strategic thinking and ability to translate business objectives into actionable marketing and sales plans.
- Demonstrated success in driving membership (customer) growth and acquisition strategies.
Sales & Marketing Expertise
- Deep understanding of marketing principles, digital marketing, and integrated campaign management.
- Experience in building and managing sales pipelines and improving conversion rates.
- Strong knowledge of customer acquisition strategies and ROI measurement.
Member-Centric Approach
- Ability to develop and implement member experience strategies to enhance engagement and retention. Skilled in championing the voice of the customer and embedding a customer-first culture across teams.
Stakeholder Management
- Exceptional ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including industry bodies and strategic partners.
- Skilled in influencing and collaborating across senior leadership teams.
Operational & Compliance
- Experience managing large budgets (circa $2M) and optimizing resources against competing priorities.
- Strong understanding of compliance requirements and ability to ensure adherence across marketing and sales activities.
Analytical & Commercial Acumen
- Ability to interpret market trends, consumer insights, and performance data to inform strategy.
- Strong commercial mindset with experience in setting and achieving acquisition and ROI targets.
Communication & Branding
- Expertise in developing and maintaining brand guidelines and ensuring consistency across channels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage complex messaging across diverse platforms.
