It all began on the corner of Granville and 28th where seven fearless women welcomed 17 students to the very first York House School in 1932. Nearly a century later, thousands of students have found their unique path and purpose at YHS. Our School has since grown into one of Canada’s leading independent schools for girls. Today, we serve approximately 700 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12.

About this Role
Reporting to the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Communications and Marketing Intern is responsible for supporting the brand, communications and marketing objectives of York House School. This individual is a talented and creative go-getter who is looking to gain valuable experience in the field. The role supports the work of a busy department supporting many different groups within the school, ensuring a great deal of variety in each day’s work.
Responsibilities:
Work on the priority projects identified by the Communications and Marketing team;
Write and edit copy for use in school print and digital media;
Support faculty in the production of graphic design projects through an online portal or by working with freelance graphic designers;
Liaise with vendors as needed (print, advertisers, etc.)
Assist the team with digital channels (e.g., yorkhouse.ca, myYHS, social media, etc.)
Support school events with communications, marketing and general event tasks;
Capture and edit quality photography and video footage of school events for use in school print and digital media and publications;
Review all photos and videos captured to select the best files based on quality, brand alignment and best practices;
Edit video content or photography using the Adobe Creative Suite;
Have a good eye for identifying images that communicate strategic messages and stories to support content;
Handle photography equipment, including cameras, lenses and lighting equipment;
Organize and maintain a digital asset library of images and video clips;
Assist with administrative tasks (e.g., scheduling, organizing, etc.);
Collaborate with other members of the team to ensure all projects are completed on time and meet school standards; and
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills and experience:
Currently enrolled in a communications, marketing, graphic design, photography, film, or related post-secondary program
Strong knowledge of photography and video equipment and techniques
Proficient in Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Premiere Pro
Experience with Adobe InDesign and Illustrator an asset
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
A portfolio of previous work is preferred
