Position Summary
The Marketing & Volunteer Coordinator supports YWCA Utah’s public presence and community engagement by managing day-to-day marketing and communications activities alongside the recruitment, coordination, and stewardship of our volunteer programs. This role is a natural connector—bridging the organization’s mission with the broader community through compelling storytelling, consistent digital presence, and meaningful volunteer experiences. The ideal candidate is organized, creative, and energized by working with people.
Core Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications
- Manage YWCA Utah’s social media presence across platforms, including content creation, scheduling, and community engagement.
- Draft and distribute email communications to community members, volunteers, and general audiences in coordination with the Donor Engagement Manager, who retains ownership of donor-facing fundraising communications.
- Maintain and update website content to ensure accuracy and alignment with current programs and events.
- Ensure marketing materials—print and digital—are current, on-brand, and available for staff use.
- Coordinate with external vendors for graphic design and video production needs as needed.
- Support event promotion and community outreach efforts for fundraising and stewardship events.
Volunteer & Community Engagement Coordination
- Recruit, screen, onboard, and schedule volunteers for YWCA Utah programs and events, including our major volunteer event.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for individual and group volunteers throughout their engagement.
- Maintain volunteer records and track hours and outcomes in the organization’s CRM and volunteer management systems.
- Develop and distribute volunteer communications including orientations, schedules, thank-you outreach, and impact updates.
- Collaborate with the Grants and Corporate Partnerships Officer on the logistics and coordination of corporate volunteer engagements, ensuring a high-quality experience for corporate partners.
- Continuously improve volunteer recruitment strategies and retention practices to grow and diversify the volunteer base.
- Lead and implement Candy Cane Lane, our most significant volunteer engagement opportunity, in collaboration with our program teams.
- Identify and respond to community engagement opportunities.
Event Support
- Provide marketing and logistical support for YWCA Utah’s major fundraising event and stewardship events, in coordination with the Donor Engagement Manager.
- Coordinate volunteer staffing for events, including recruitment, scheduling, and day-of management.
- Support event communications including promotional content, RSVPs, and follow-up outreach.
Qualifications
Required
- 1–3 years of experience in marketing, communications, volunteer coordination, or a related field.
- Strong written communication skills with an ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and platforms.
- Comfortable managing social media platforms and email marketing tools.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; comfort learning new software and database systems.
- Genuine commitment to YWCA Utah’s mission and values around racial and gender equity.
Preferred
- Experience with volunteer management software or CRM
- Familiarity with website content management systems
- Background in nonprofit communications or community engagement.
- Graphic design, photography, or multimedia skills are a plus but not required—we outsource specialized design work
Working Conditions
The role is primarily office-based with occasional evening or weekend commitments for events and volunteer activities. Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit for long periods of time; use computer to enter data; use telephone to converse with customers and employees; walk and stand for long periods of time; perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement. Travel to attend conferences, training, outreach and other events occurs routinely.
