About the Role
Edelman’s Public & Government Affairs team helps clients navigate complex policy, political, regulatory, reputational, and stakeholder environments. We bring together communications strategy, public affairs expertise, media relations, research, digital strategy, stakeholder engagement, and campaign execution to help organizations build trust, shape conversations, and advance business and policy priorities. Our team is seeking a Senior Account Supervisor to support integrated public affairs, policy communications, and stakeholder engagement programs for clients operating at the intersection of business, government, and public policy. This role is ideal for a strong communications professional with experience translating complex policy issues into clear, compelling strategies and content for policymaker, stakeholder, media, and public audiences. The successful candidate will bring hands-on experience in policy communications, preferably gained through work in government, on Capitol Hill, at a trade association, within a public affairs agency, or in a corporate public affairs environment. Experience with energy policy is strongly preferred. The Senior Account Supervisor will serve as a day-to-day client counselor, project manager, and communications strategist, helping develop and execute programs that advance client priorities in a dynamic policy and media environment.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Communications and Public Affairs Strategy
Develop and execute public affairs and policy communications strategies that support client business, reputational, and advocacy objectives.
Translate complex legislative, regulatory, and policy issues into clear, persuasive messaging for diverse audiences, including policymakers, stakeholders, media, employees, and the public.
Monitor and analyze policy, political, regulatory, and media developments relevant to client priorities, with a focus on energy, infrastructure, sustainability, innovation, and related public policy issues.
Support the development of integrated communications plans that connect policy goals with earned media, stakeholder engagement, thought leadership, digital, and advocacy tactics.
Client Management
Serve as a primary day-to-day contact for clients, helping manage workstreams, deadlines, deliverables, and expectations.
Provide thoughtful counsel to clients and internal teams on public affairs strategy, message development, stakeholder dynamics, and policy communications opportunities.
Prepare client-ready materials, including messaging documents, talking points, policy one-pagers, memos, briefing materials, media materials, campaign plans, and executive communications.
Help ensure client work is delivered on time, on strategy, and at a high standard of quality.
Energy Policy and Issue Expertise
Bring knowledge of, or strong interest in energy policy issues, including areas such as energy production, transmission, grid reliability, clean energy, permitting, infrastructure, manufacturing, climate, sustainability, and federal or state energy policy debates.
Help clients navigate the communications implications of energy policy, regulatory developments, legislative activity, and stakeholder scrutiny.
Identify opportunities for clients to engage constructively in policy conversations through thought leadership, stakeholder engagement, earned media, coalitions, and advocacy campaigns.
Have an understanding of the earned media landscape, and have the experience of pitching media.
Campaign and Digital Execution
Support the planning and execution of public affairs campaigns, including advocacy, reputation, stakeholder, and issue-based campaigns.
Work with digital, creative, paid media, research, and earned media specialists to develop integrated campaign tactics.
Help develop content for campaign channels, including social media, websites, email, toolkits, paid media, and stakeholder outreach.
Experience with political campaigns, grassroots or grasstops advocacy, coalition campaigns, or digital campaign development is a plus.
Writing, Research, and Content Development
Draft high-quality written materials for clients and internal teams, including strategic plans, policy memos, op-eds, press materials, stakeholder letters, social content, executive briefing documents, and presentation materials.
Conduct research and analysis to support client recommendations, new business opportunities, policy positioning, and campaign strategy.
Synthesize complicated information quickly and produce clear, accurate, and actionable communications materials.
Team Collaboration and Project Management
Manage multiple client workstreams simultaneously while coordinating across internal teams and specialty functions.
Help guide junior team members by providing direction, edits, feedback, and support on client deliverables.
Collaborate with colleagues across Edelman, including public affairs, corporate reputation, crisis, digital, creative, research, paid media, and sector experts.
Support project management, staffing coordination, budget tracking, and internal communications to ensure smooth account operations.
New Business and Organic Growth
Contribute to new business and organic growth efforts by supporting research, strategy development, proposal writing, and pitch preparation.
Identify opportunities to expand client work based on emerging policy issues, reputational needs, campaign opportunities, or stakeholder dynamics.
Bring an entrepreneurial mindset and a strong interest in helping grow Edelman’s Public & Government Affairs offering.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, political science, public policy, journalism, government affairs, or a related field.
5+ years of relevant experience in public affairs, policy communications, government affairs, political campaigns, Capitol Hill, a trade association, corporate communications, or an agency environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working on or around energy policy or in communications around energy, including energy production, clean energy, utilities, transmission, permitting, infrastructure, sustainability, or related policy issues.
Demonstrated experience developing communications materials related to public policy, legislative, regulatory, or political issues.
Prior experience in government, on Capitol Hill, at a trade association, in a political campaign, or in a public affairs agency.
Experience supporting advocacy, coalition, issue, or reputation campaigns.
Familiarity with digital campaign development, social media strategy, paid media, or grassroots/grasstops engagement.
Strong understanding of Washington, D.C. policy, media, and stakeholder dynamics.
Ability to make complex policy issues understandable and relevant to business, public, and policymaker audiences.
Strong client service orientation, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

$80,000 - $120,000 a year

An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, travel requirements, revenue-based metrics, any contractual agreements, and business or organizational needs.
