The Opportunity:
The Police Communications Operators are primarily the first point of contact for all incoming telephone calls (non-emergency and administrative) into the RCMP detachment from the public, Municipal Enforcement Officers, and all other third party clients. The position utilizes and is responsible for maintaining all relevant police databases, computer related software and communication devices. The purpose of this role is to triage all requests for service to determine the appropriate follow up or action required and plays a critical role in Municipal Enforcement Officer safety.
Top Key Responsibilities:
- Expertise in Police and Enforcement Databases - strong proficiency with systems such as CIIDS, CPIC, and PROS, including creating, maintaining, and auditing records, running and interpreting queries, relaying critical safety information to officers. This is a core function and occupies the majority of the responsibilities.
- High‑Level Decision Making in Call Triage - Evaluate incoming service requests, Prioritize calls based on protocols and risk, Make sound, quick decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Clear and Accurate Communication (Radio, Phone, Written) - Communication is central to the job, including using Ten Codes and the Phonetic Alphabet, relaying accurate information to RCMP and Municipal Enforcement Officers, providing professional customer service to the public and partner agencies, errors in communication can directly affect safety and outcomes.
- Strong Administrative Accuracy and Attention to Detail - Preparing and reviewing files, reports, and data entries, Handling confidential information with precision, Tracking statistics and maintaining detailed records, Accuracy is crucial for compliance and audit standards.
- Ability to Support, Mentor, and Collaborate With Team Members - Training and mentoring employees on operator duties, supporting officers as a knowledgeable resource, assisting with other operational roles when needed. This demonstrates the need for teamwork and adaptability.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
- Grade 12
- Must have 3 years’ of direct related experience in a Police communications environment; may consider 3 years’ related experience in emergency communications.
- National RCMP Telecommunications Operator Course would be an asset.
- Ability to pass RCMP Security Clearance prior to receiving an offer of employment
- Must maintain RCMP Security Clearance throughout employment
- Ability to type 50wpm accurately
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete tested course in RCMP PROS User Course, RCMP CPIC Maintenance Course, RCMP Records Information Manager Course, National Telecommunications Operator Course
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete Police Communications Operator training
- Must be able to work shift work, including evenings and weekends.

Remuneration:
$35.69 to $37.79 per hour.
Hours of Work:
75 hours biweekly, as scheduled. Shifts scheduled Monday to Sunday between the hours of 6:45 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. including Statutory Holidays.
Additional Information:
The term of this position is anticipated to be approximately 18 months in duration.
