Mater is seeking an experienced Director, Communications Projects to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of complex, high‑impact communications and digital initiatives.
Operating at a senior level, this role provides strategic direction and operational oversight to ensure major initiatives are delivered with strong governance and measurable impact, aligned with Mater’s strategic priorities, brand, clinical services and stakeholder expectations.
This 12 month project will play an important role in modernising how Mater connects with patients, consumers, clinicians, partners and the broader community.
Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Executive Director, Corporate Affairs and Growth, the Director, Communications Projects provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of complex, high‑impact communications and digital initiatives across Mater.
This senior role leads the planning, delivery and evaluation of major enterprise‑wide communications projects that support organisational priorities, reputation, growth and service delivery. Working across Mater’s hospitals, services and support functions, the Director ensures communications are integrated, well governed and aligned with Mater’s strategic, brand and stakeholder expectations.
The role operates at a senior level, partnering closely with executives, project sponsors, clinical leaders and specialist teams to manage risk, optimise resources and embed best‑practice communications and change principles. With accountability for a multidisciplinary team of managers, advisors and project specialists, the Director fosters a high‑performing, collaborative culture and ensures consistent, contemporary and measurable communications outcomes across channels and locations.
About you
You are an accomplished communications and project leader with a strong track record delivering complex, concurrent initiatives in large, multifaceted organisations. You combine strategic thinking with hands‑on leadership, and are comfortable navigating ambiguity, competing priorities and issues‑sensitive environments.
- Proven senior‑level experience leading complex communications and digital projects from planning through to delivery and evaluation
- Strong strategic capability, with the ability to translate organisational priorities into integrated communications programs
- Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams across corporate affairs, communications, digital and project functions
- High‑level stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to build trusted relationships with executives, clinical leaders and senior operational stakeholders
- Sound financial, governance and risk management capability, including oversight of budgets, procurement and external suppliers
- Experience embedding best‑practice communications, change and evaluation methodologies
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, media or a related discipline (healthcare experience desirable)
