Job Description:
Overview
This role sits at the heart of how bp communicates with its people. The communications advisor helps shape a clear internal narrative that connects employees to the company’s strategy, performance, and priorities. Working closely with the head of group internal communications, the role blends strategic thinking, content development, and cross‑team coordination to ensure our internal voice is consistent, engaging, and aligned with bp’s direction.
What the Role Does
A central focus of the role is strengthening how line managers communicate with their teams. This includes developing practical tools, briefings, and guidance that help managers hold meaningful conversations, while also using insights to refine the approach over time. The advisor also plays a connecting role across bp’s global internal communications community, curating shared standards, surfacing strong examples, and keeping resources aligned across regions.
Campaigns are another major part of the work. The advisor partners with colleagues across C&EA to shape how we communicate on topics that carry strategic importance, ensuring employees understand not just what bp is doing, but why it matters. Day to day, the role involves drafting clear, timely communications, staying close to employee sentiment, and working with insights teams to understand what’s landing and what needs to evolve. There’s also an expectation to look ahead — exploring how AI and new technologies can strengthen internal communication and sharing those learnings with the wider team.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and support delivery of bp’s group‑wide internal communications strategy
Lead the line‑manager engagement programme and evaluate its impact
Coordinate bp’s global internal communications community of practice
Shape and deliver campaigns on topics of strategic importance
Draft clear, timely internal communications in partnership with editorial
Collaborate with insights teams to define metrics and improve effectiveness
Contribute to crisis communications when required
Additional Areas of Focus
Beyond the core responsibilities, the role contributes to building a more connected and informed organisation. This includes helping employees understand bp’s strategy through accessible explainers and materials, maintaining a strong link with the PC&C team to stay attuned to employee sentiment, and continuously improving communication processes and tools to increase efficiency. The advisor is also expected to bring curiosity and initiative around AI — testing new approaches, identifying opportunities, and helping embed modern communication practices across the team.
What You Bring
This role suits someone who thinks strategically and writes with clarity. You’re comfortable turning complex information into messages people can understand and act on, and you work well across teams in fast‑moving environments. You bring strong communication instincts, organisational awareness, and an interest in how digital tools — including AI and Copilot — can elevate internal communication. Most importantly, you understand the role internal communication plays in shaping culture, alignment, and performance across a global organisation.
